Capacity Building

Capacity Building

ASC intentionally designs workshops and training opportunities that foster the health and community of Charlotte-Mecklenburg cultural organizations and individuals. Creativity is a muscle worth stretching, so jump on board.

Organization-focused programs typically have an emphasis on leadership development, marketing/audience development, resource development, and overall organization sustainability.

Programs geared towards creative individuals generally develop the necessary skills for self-sustaining arts careers. If you’re in need of business savvy, don’t be shy.

ASC also hosts a number of workshops and other training opportunities that target specific areas of organizational development, like board structure or staffing. These opportunities are for professionals in any field at any level.

If you require accommodations to attend any workshop and training event hosted by ASC, please call 704-335-3050 or email grants@artsandscience.org at least one week prior to the event.

Lead with Your Talents Spring 2023

Application Deadline: May 2, 2023.
Cost:
$45.

Course Description:

As we navigate our professional lives, we soon realize that there are certain tasks that feel like a really “good fit.”  These tasks come easily to us – we are good at these tasks and we enjoy doing them as well.  As we take notice of these tasks more and more, the process provides an invitation for us to be present, observe ourselves, make conscious choices and lead with our talents.

Lead with Your Talents© is a unique leadership development program targeting emerging leaders in the Charlotte-Mecklenburg nonprofit arts and culture community.  This program, designed and facilitated by Angelina Corbet, Founder of The Mobius Company, and Bill Southerland of Anchors Consulting makes use of the Highlands Ability Battery.  The program provides opportunities for participants to enhance their leadership style by increasing self-awareness and understanding of their ideal work environment, personal style, decision-making and problem-solving processes, communication and learning styles.

Participants will:

  • Complete the Highlands Ability Battery. The Battery is administered online and takes about 2 ½ hours to complete.  However, it does not have to be completed in one sitting.  It is comprised of 19 timed tasks, called work samples.  Each work sample is designed to measure a distinct ability.
  • Receive an individualized Highlands Leader Report. After completion of the Highlands Ability Battery, participants will have access to 40+ pages of individualized reports.  Participants will print a copy of their Leadership report and bring it with them to the group feedback session and the one additional session.
  • Attend and participate in a group feedback session where the various abilities measured by the Highlands Ability Battery will be defined and the implication of the results for the participant will be explained.  Participants will have the opportunity to ask questions about their particular scores on the various work samples.
  • Attend and participate in one collective learning session designed to increase self-awareness and understanding of their leadership style through the use of the Highlands Ability Battery.  Participants will gain an understanding of how the Battery can be used as a tool to look at themselves by engaging in several reflective and hands-on exercises designed to provide opportunity for them to experience their Personal Style, Driving Abilities, and Specialized Abilities as well as the Four Dimensions of Work Environment, Problem-Solving, Communication and Learning Styles.
